In today’s digital world, actively using Personal Learning Network (PLN) can greatly enhance professional growth. My PLN revolves around several social media platforms such as X, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Nowadays, I use X primarily for world news and current affairs. X fast-paced nature allows me to access breaking news and emerging topics quickly, keeping me informed about global events. For instance, with the Summer Olympics 2024 currently underway, I follow several pages dedicated to the event. These pages regularly post updates on results, schedules, and highlights, helping me keep track of the games in real-time. I can easily find out which sport or athlete is competing the next day and stay updated on record-breaking performances or controversies. To enhance my experience, I like and repost relevant content, which helps the algorithm show me more similar updates.
On YouTube, I watch videos related to technology which helps me learn new things, whenever I encounter a topic I don’t fully understand, I watch tutorials and explanations that help me grasp complex ideas more effectively. Moreover, I use YouTube to upload my own content, such as game videos and entertaining clips. This not only allows me to share my interests and creativity but also helps me connect with others who share similar passions.
Instagram, on the other hand, serves more for entertainment and social connection. When I need a break or feel bored, I watch Instagram reels to refresh my mind before returning to study or daily tasks. I also use Instagram to stay in touch with friends and family by chatting and viewing their posts, reels, and stories. This helps me stay updated on their activities and maintain an active, informative social circle. My Instagram account is set to private, while I don’t post frequently, I share updates occasionally, keeping my network engaged.
I recently started using LinkedIn to enhance my professional network and job search. I set up a profile, included my resume, experiences, and education. I have made connections with people I know and those employed at companies I am interested in. I actively comment on posts to offer support and congratulations, which helps build visibility. To access good job opportunities, I am working on making my LinkedIn profile as clean, informative and attractive as possible. This includes showcasing my skills, experiences, and professional achievements to stand out to potential employers.
In summary, using X for news, YouTube for learning, Instagram for entertainment and social connections, and LinkedIn for professional networking supports my personal and career growth. My long term goal will be to keep expanding my PLN to diverse and broader range of people and experts.
